In the Read+ Foundation programme, our students will be given a valuable head start on formal English education. It adopts a four-pronged approach towards language acquisition and proficiency in our students.
Firstly, it aims to build upon our students’ reading foundation to instill a genuine appreciation of chapter books of different literary genres. In each term, a selected chapter book will be used to guide our young students through the foundational skills needed to grasp the English language, exposing them to basic grammatical conventions, boosting their vocabulary thematically and fostering a critical eye through comprehension. Each lesson will dedicate some time for students to analyse and discuss the literary and language components of the selected term chapter book.
Throughout the term, students will experience in-depth weekly lessons dedicated to three pillars of the English language – Grammar, Vocabulary and Comprehension. Our Grammar lessons will see students learning the essentials needed for them not only to prepare for formal education, but also excel in it. Vocabulary lessons will serve as an extension of the Grammar component, ensuring that students have their language capacity nurtured to express themselves adequately, be it through writing or speech. Finally, Comprehension lessons will have students consider fiction and non-fiction texts as a means to craft their inference and higher levels of understanding.
